To further develop ties between two of Asia's most dynamic countries, South Korea and Indonesia, Seoul has increased its scholarships on offer for Indonesian students to 21 this year, the South Korean Embassy said.

"This is the highest number of scholarships we have ever awarded to Indonesian students," the embassy informed The Jakarta Post recently.

Newly appointed South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Kim Ho-young invited all the scholarship recipients to his office to congratulate them prior to their departure to South Korea.

Of the 21, 15 of the scholarships were given for a master's degree program, five to doctoral students, and one for a scholar to undertake a one-year research program.

All the students (except the research scholar) are required to undertake a one-year Korean language course which will begin on Monday, before their enrollment at the universities.

In addition to the 21 scholarships, the South Korean government has also provided several undergraduate scholarships for Indonesian students to study in South Korea. -- JP/Veeramalla Anjaiah
